creating tempo-synced synth?

Post by codenixm »

Hi~!
First of all, I LOVE your FXs!
I can believe that it's free! Right now I'm just a sound eingeering graduate but when I'll be able to make enough money to contribute, I will donate. Thank you again for your plugins.

As I said, I just graduated and the knowledge that I have is close to none. I can barely control ADSR.. :?

Could you point me to the right direction about creating an host tempo-synced synth? When I'm successful, I'll make sure to save it to the bank and upload the patch! :D

Thanks!

sorry for the late response.. was kinda busy lately. :D

hm.. tempo-synced synth..

if you listen to :Karma_Talk_5.mp3"
about 30 seconds.. isn't it automated synth?
and the bass-like sound around 1:00..

maybe my explaination is a bit mess..

it's like delay but with filters all over and also the delay's synced with host's tempo.. (host : Sonar, Cubase, etc..)

i'll try my best if you need more explaination.
thanks~!

ok, I've listened :)
Now, if I understand you correctly you simply mean
the tempo synced delay used on the bass and the lead, right?

To get this effect on any patch, simply insert a "delay"
component in the patch. That delay is always tempo synced
(to the host), and you simply choose the number of
1/4's you want it delayed using using the "delay" knob.
Put the "fine" and the "stereo" in center positions to force it to sync correctly.

Let me know if this helps ?!

cool thx!!
now i'm getting a better picture! :)

but.. it just doesn't sounds like a delay playing..
volume gets louder, then lower, then louder again..

and not just a delay, but sounds like it's been programmed or something.. like Rain Pad in General Midis..

is it possible to make instruments like that with Karma FX?

if you're still not sure, maybe i should upload a style that i'm looking for.. i'll try to upload it soon.

sorry for all the troubles.. :D

Well, if you heard it in the samples, then yes, since everything is
made with the synth there :D

but your'e right, drums, bass and leads have been programmed...
and are not simply a result of an effect, envelope nor step sequencer ...

look forward to your upload.

thank you for your replies!
i really appreciate your help!

here's the sample..

http://mysite.verizon.net/codenixm/sample_1.wav

it sounds more like a real-time MIDI sequence or something..

i thought KarmaFX might be able to do something similar to this after hearing the samples.. and it was easy to use compared to the other synthes..

thanks again for your help!

HI, new to the Karma Synth...

is it possible to sync LFos to the Host Tempo? if not, it would be a nice option...

Hi autodafe,

Yes, LFO sync to host is possible.
Simply enable the "sync" led on the LFO.
You can still control its rate but it will be rounded to the nearest
rate that matches the current tempo.
Let me know if it works for you !?

Thanks for the sample codenixm...

I've just tried to recreate the effect you are talking about in KarmaFX Synth.
Have a listen here: http://karmafx.dk/samples/codenixm_test1.mp3

If I've understood you correctly, the problem was the synced delay,
which I placed at exactly 4 beats (see patch screenshot below).

Note, that I havn't tried to mimic the sound, just the echo effect.
It shouldn't be hard to setup, but I can send you the patch if you like...

lemme just tell everyone else about it. :)
Thanks again, karmafx!

Hi codenixm !

I've just sent you the patch by email, but with the patch template you
have there it is actually pretty easy to setup. Sorry that my first
screenshot didn't show the wires.

1) First you need to connect the generators to the filter1.
To do this, hold ctrl, left click on the blue titlebar that says "Generator1",
then left click (still holding ctrl) on "Filter1" titlebar.
You should see the wire behind the modules. You may release ctrl now :-)
Do the same for Generator2 and 3.

2) Now you need to wire:
Filter1->Amplifier1->Controller1->Effect1->Effect2->Output.
Do this by again holding ctrl. Click on "Filter1" and then on each of every
of the other modules in the list above and in that order. When you keep
holding ctrl you can wire many modules in series that way.

3) We now need to route the ADSR into Filter1's Cutoff and Amp1 Amp
knobs. Do this by again holding ctrl clicking on the "Modulator1" titlebar
then on the Cutoff knob. Do the same with Amp knob. Finally route
MidiTrig into Cutoff as well.

Thats it. All that is left is tweaking the knobs.
So, the final patch should look something like this:

Hope this helps ! :D

btw: what host are you using ?
