FR: Tuned filtering

Take a look at this patch. It seems impossible for me to get the keyboard tracking on the filter module to make it "in tune." In addition, the MidiTrig module can't solve the problem either.

I've been finding this problem, too. I was trying to do my usual 'send noise to a bandpass to make a flute' experiment and failed.

I'm not sure what the point of keboard filter tracking is if it doesn't follow the pitch of notes when set to 100%. Am I missing something?

Good point! Can you please try with the parametric filter module ?
That one should be spot-on pitch perfect.

Hmm... I don't even seem to be able to get the parametric filter to anything like self-oscillation. Having tried with several of them, the problem is that all the filters seem to undertrack. Even at 200% they're wildly out of whack by the time you've gone up by a fifth.

I use self-oscillation quite a bit - especially with noise. I've lobbed a test bank into http://www.denecarter.com/TestBank.zip if you want to see what I'm trying to do. I've used a parametric (no self-oscillation) and a moog (self-oscillating, but massively under-tracking) in that patch.

Hope this is of some use to somebody!

yes, you're right... the filter tracking for SVF, Zolzer, Moog and 303like isn't pitch perfect ....but it is one of those legacy issues that are hard to correct without breaking backward compatability soundwise.

To remedy this I could perhaps introduce a new series of filters with perfect tuning. The parametric filter has this, but if you cannot get it to self oscillate (even with high orders?, why is that?) it is not much use....

Alternatively I could perhaps make the new keybtracking an option you would have to enable on the knob. That would be easier to do I guess, but not so intuitive.

its not something every man would do though
right click options are far better than a new series of filters :P

A button or right click option would be just fine. The filters sound great in general - no need to rock the boat too much. :D

yeah right clicking wouldn't be that bad....I've added it to the list! :D
