Something id really like to see

Now first ill state what id really like to see whenever, sooner rather than later:

1. dual-filters

2. more filter types.. ie. shape filters

3. more portamento types
the normal portamento is pretty steep
you should have hold as well as bend and preglide :|

yes its alot... but its also top notch ;)

oh right i forgot...
if you attach 2 modulators you will get the average
if only i could control the band-width of the band option for filters :P

i got over my laziness and made a dualsaw
they are very hard to make, and even harder to make it sound good
so bear with the sound... i didnt really tweak it much as its just an example
notice the low-end vs the high-end when the LFO does its work
ie. how the saw doesnt sound scratchy and ugly 50% of the time ;)

edit: i made it better, because laziness never gets you anywhere -->

posted a couple of version from instruments i deem finished
2 is oldest etc.
i could have made 5 stronger, but no need.. its up to whoever uses it really :P
(also the beat is done at number 5..sigh.. for some reason i had to make a beat too)

number 4 has wrong parameters for ADSR on second filter, which makes it choppy
this is because portamento is on... shutting portamento off fixes it, but then you go back to 3
also, number 3 and 4 is typical mauro picotto back when he actually made music that didnt sound like shit

btw: very nice sound. can you explain how that dualsaw is made ?
I like dualsaw.mp3 and dualsaw_5.mp3 best. :D 8)

1 is the original, and 5 is the final filtered version thats probably going into a bank
i realize i lost some sound from 1-5, ill see if if i wont just add 1 as well

shape filters.. i dont know, they resonate at certain points i guess

a dual filter is mostly 2 situations when i make instrus:
1. Low vs Band
2. Low vs Low
in other words, its just something i do.. i dont really know all the magic behind it

ok, first you have 2 filters, that work side by side
different cutoffs, except both move at the same time and affect the sound on a different level
so its like your shelve filter, except it doesnt have gain
it has at least 2 filters with:
1. Cutoff, and filter bandwidth mode
2. resonation
3. level (very important)
and optionally panning, but i deem that mostly useless...

and then you have a master cutoff, that works two ways
low end and high end
thats the magic to it.. you can tweak both the minimum and maximum value (offsets) to any filters in the dual-filter thingie
i will try and make a real instrument that "lives" only this method
and you'll see.. it can be a good thing :P

also to make the dualsaw you gotta have a saw generator
unison, STRAIGHT, medium detune and voices (btw you should try add phat unison.. great for pads)
throw in a pattern which only plays itself
throw in a notepitch and turn the pitch to a low but noticable value
throw in a couple of filters, one that moves, and the rest to tweak the sound
eq in the high bw of the sound, to get the gliding audible
then you HAVE to make a decent delay that doesnt drown, but rather makes the sound continous
and maybe a little reverb to smoothe it out, if you prefer
then output and blasting sound

to make this kind of "sound" you also have to have a continous notation as well from your VST host
btw i find that the portamento in pattern and note pitch works different
which is a godsend... two completely different portamento sounds
drool-worthy

I like 1) the best for sure.. I think I'm hearing dualsaw.mp3 looped for the 400'th time now...definetly a very catchy song! :D 8)

btw: Is everything in there made with the synth or is there other stuff in there?

So what feature is it exactly that you miss with dual filters?
I mean if it is possible to run two different filters in parallel with different settings to achieve the effect...or did I misunderstand something?

Again, please explain. :shock: When mixing modulators you can control their individual mix by adjusting the amplitude (left click and drag on an arrow on a wires), but I'm guessing this is not what you mean ?!

in filter land...bandwith is practically the same as Q (or resonance), especially for bandpass filters. But maybe you mean something different?

EDIT: can you achieve what you want with the parametric module ?
and if not, please explain what it is you're missing :)

band leaves a SET AMOUNT of bw, that i cant control

i didnt know about the parametric filter(?) though
ingenious... thats like a dream come true AGAIN
is there anything you dont have?

ill try to make some instrus again with filtermaster 2000 (parameq)

Maybe you could upload your patches? I'd love to play with them and learn how you do things. Sounds like they are really good. :D

dualsaw is the most advanced right now.. good filtering etc.

btw these glide synths sound the best with FM, and i havent really tried that yet with karma synth :)

Ok, i have looked through everything and here is a list of what this synth REALLY needs:

1. Choose from:
a) A folder to keep synths, that will be listed from the Additive generator
or
b) More synths, see z3ta+ or i could draw the waves (or upload many good ones)
esp. vintage saws, multisaws, self-synced stuff (you should have self-sync as a knob), piano and voice/vox-waves
I have all of these, so a subfolder listing would be superb

(sampler?)

2. multi-voice chorus, it helps.. its the only way of making hardtrance pluck synths
a static 6-voice could be all thats needed

3. quad-phaser?

4. does PW actually work on all generators? im not so sure

5. please let me draw beziers, and not just single points in the additive synth.. its killing me :(
(put this far down the todo though, .wav list is important)

thats exactly it
i want karmafx to have a synths folder, just like z3ta+ has
only its not a predefined 0-63 list, just a folder listing
though it probably goes into the sampler and not the additive synth :)
(though you should really add more waves.. i have hundreds of them if you want some)

Yes. Right click on the additive display and choose "Save...".
This will save your current waveform to disk (in the folder KarmaFX\KarmaFX_Synth\Waveforms ) and add it to the waveform list.

This is called a "user-preset" in the manual.
This snippet is directly from the manual:
Right Click: Shows the right click menu:
WAVEFORM: Directly select a built-in/user waveform preset.
CLEAR: Resets waveform to silence.
SAVE…: Save drawn waveform to disk as a user-preset.
IMPORT…: Imports a .wav file and converts it into a waveform.
Alternatively simply drag&drop a file onto the module.
...
You should also be able to create the .wav files yourself, but I recommend using the import feature.
The stored .wav files are in 32 bit float format.

btw: in the sampler you can use an alternative approach:
Say you load a .wav sample from a folder full of different .wav files, then you can use the small arrows in the lower right corner of the sample display to browse through all the samples in that folder.

While that doesn't give you a list to choose from, it does speed up sample browsing :D ...

Sampler is not what i expected
it doesnt "use" waveforms.. just samples
i have hundreds of GOOD waveforms.. cant use them
it needs to be read into the additive synth ;)

shit!!!! i made a new lead.. that was actually good
then i bind a cloned additive osc (homemade saw) to something.. chorus i think it was
gen1 -> unison -> chorus ...
gen2 -> chorus ...
crashed :/

btw unison, could there be a 3rd option?
somehow it sounds so different from ie. rapture's "voices" feature
(which should be the same thing.. voices & detune)
