Hello im the new guy as of 08.06 2008
Im a trance producer, and im hoping karmafx synth will help me get the sound i want
most of the synths i use doesnt have what i need
it used to be ok, but i have gotten pickier

here are some examples of what i have made so far:
http://fwsnet.net/mp3/angel_2.mp3
http://fwsnet.net/mp3/anotherworld_2.mp3 (stopped working on it, so watch out for the bass)

i have remixed hundreds and made tens(!) of songs
so, i pretty much spend my sparetime making music

cheers

not to be the bearer of bad news, but KarmaFX is not good for supersaws. High CPU usage and it doesn't have the special supersaw touch. The best for supersaw is Helix which is a free synth, soon to be an updated commercial product. I have tested almost every single synth that has any supersaw capability. Don't know why or how, but Helix is #1. Second is Sylenth1 (not to be confused with Synth1).

OR

Just keep using what you've been using. Oh, and if you're looking for new supersaw tones besides Helix or what you've been using, just layer any two supersaw-capable synths.

Hey, you are a trance producer, why don't you teach ME a thing or two about it? Maybe you know more than I do about supersaws.

i have sylenth1 and it doesnt have the sound iwant
i did make a hardtrance saw.. i can upload it

nice. :)

please DO post patches or send them to me directly, and I'll include them in the patch banks... or if you have made many patches I'll put them on the "soon-to-be" patch bank page.

sorry, no patch right now
i will make a patch bank thing though
it will all be there
ill continue to post some individual patches that i feel are good enough to be "official" and remove the ones already in my post (because they werent that good)

going to try and replicate the instrus i made for this song too:
http://fwsnet.net/mp3/fireandice_3.mp3

i know the sound theory behind it, but i dont know karma well enough :P
hate to admit it... but it has a learning curve ;)

Oh, and if you find something that you think isn't working properly or not explained well in the manual, please don't hesitate to let me know.
I'm always interested in making things better.

i do have one problem
i try to link a modulator to anything and nothing happens
the line doesnt become red, but it does look red when attaching it
major problem(!).. which is why i have to start with a preset everytime :(
couldnt find anything in the manual on it other than it says the red line is only for overview purposes
i think there must be an issue though

modulators should be linked to knobs (or sliders), not modules.
you can also choose to bypass the ctrl click system: just right click on a knob, and choose the desired input module.

Posted: 09 Jun 2008 21:02
by MadGonzo
that explains ALOT
you should make a first-time message pop up when someone links a modulator to ie. an amplifier
actually don't.. just make a line with red text somewhere on the controllers pages in the manual :P

btw. this just made my day
i can manipulate values from inside with controllers?
i owe you some more money

i hate to say it but "god damnit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
i had just replicated my lead for fireandice..
and the final touch was binding a second oscilliator to a unison
it crashed :(

Posted: 09 Jun 2008 21:59
by karmafx
very sorry to hear that.
If possible please send me the patch before it crashed, and I will fix ASAP.
And here I was thinking the synth was crash free in its current version, but I guess not. Sorry, please remember to save often.

Posted: 09 Jun 2008 22:05
by MadGonzo
Sorry, i didnt get to saving it
but ill make another one ofc.. its a simple synth, it just needs an awesome delay and a heap of filtering and equalizing internally

Posted: 09 Jun 2008 22:26
by MadGonzo
Made a new one
its very distorted though.. i didnt fix that yet
but its pretty close now
http://fwsnet.net/mp3/fireandice.fxp
http://fwsnet.net/mp3/fireandice.mp3
the reverb and delay might need adjustment.. it doesnt feel 100% right
ill post the finished one in my patches thread

nice!!!

please let me know if you run into that crash again. :?
I've just tried to hook up an osc2 to unison without problems, but you might have done something extra?! I'm going to test it some more...

Posted: 09 Jun 2008 22:53
by MadGonzo
ive been a programmer for a long ass time so i know it can be anything
but i know for sure the crash happened instantly after i hooked an osc2 that i immediately changed to osc1 THEN hooked
thats what i can remember.. osc2 -> osc1 -> hook -> unison
it was playing btw

ok..thanks ! investigating...

Word of advice. I have my sequencer making a backup every 60 seconds. I suggest you do the same. Ever since I did that, no crash ever caused a problem again, no matter how unexpected!

DO IT.

well...backups are always good. However, a well behaved app should never crash. And if it does, it should rather be the exception than the rule. I really hope that it isn't the synth that crashes for you so often that this backup strategy is necessary, Argitoth ? :? :?:

Hey MadGonzo.... dbd-strapped4 sounds really good!
btw don't forget to check your private messages ! :-)

Posted: 11 Jun 2008 06:10
by MadGonzo
sorry didnt see the messages
the app doesnt crash alot no, its only happened 2 times so far
whats really wierd are the resets
sometimes the sound gets different after a play restart
i also noticed the arp bug you found
nothing major though :P

my latest big project
used many many different synths all my own sound as usual :)
its not half done yet
i spent a week making the sounds i wanted
the remaining is the song layout, effects and percussion
something like that at least
and some more mastering, though the sound is okay for the most part

massive sound you've hit there, MadG! really well crafted ! 8)
which reverb did you use?
...and just out of curiosity, was any karmafx stuff used for this production?

Re: My stuff

as always, karmafx synth for a few instrus, all reverb, some filters etc.
http://fwsnet.net/mp3/synaesthesia_17.mp3
finished it though :P

yeah...it sounds incredibly smooth. Is it really only the karmafx reverb ?
would you be interested in sharing some of your reverb presets?

btw: The final result sounds really good! Hope you're working on getting this music *out there* !

Re: My stuff

nah i wont be posting any presets for the reverb (most are factory)
though one of my cheapest tricks is to use the white ocean with lower decay, full dry and 8-15% wet
with low enough you can even put it on master and it sounds good, but not really recommended :P

i have a suggestion though,
try TAL-DUB-- its a free delay plugin
the best thing about it is its clean-ness and ability to make long resonant and filtered delays
its weakness is there really is no good way to have a forever going delay unless you have multiple automations
and it doesnt have a good ping pong feature
see, for each ping it will decay, making the overall sound more left or more right than the opposite
ie. if you ping pong right, it will be weaker at the next left
the overall sound will turn right, and just adjusting the overall panning is a bad idea obviously
so, once youve tried it give me a report on karmafx delay etc. :)

im still waiting for you to figure out something godly when it comes to wave synthesis (z3ta+ does it better, sorry to say), filtering and chorus

btw. what do you think is the most glaring difference between the z3ta+ filter (which is but 1 type) and karmafx ones?
i still keep thinking it's the waveforms or the synthesis

EDIT; also updated link to the final version (finally done with it), fixes based on input :P
