If I route a stepmodulator through the output I get a low clicking sound. But the modulator is not a generator. Is that normal behaviour or is it a bug?

The step modulator, tho not a generator - still outputs a kind of 'wave' allbeit very low speed - your hearing something similar to dc noise....

in short - u would hope the step modulator outputted something - i dont think its a bug....

who would do that tho?

You can make custom waveforms using the envelope module at a very high speed. Gotta love the way sound/modulation signals are the same thing in KarmaFX.
