sidechain question

Post by Soundscape »

Hi,
i do have a question?Busy with some experimental shit here is simple setup to make my question more clear:
one sampler and one noise generator both linked to a compressor that goes to an amplifier ,note pitch controller straight to the output.
here's my question can i duck my sampler with sidechaining as the output of my noisegenerator is going up assigned to a midi control?

you should be able to...havn't tried it though :-)

basically you need to route the noise to an envelope follower,
and send that signal to "sidechain" in the compressor.
Then make sure you turn the input/sidechain mix knob all the way to the right (full sidechain).

let me know if you get it to work, or if I misunderstood anything....

Right click on the background, add component > modulation > envfollow to add an envelope follower module.

doh, actually it occurred to me, that you don't have to use the envelope follower since the compressor already has that built-in (i.e., attack/release), so just route your signal to sidechain and mix it in.
sorry, that should work....I hope ?!

pfff don't get it!
Here you can download a simplified patch just basic.
I've been trying and trying i know it's new for me but really want this thing cleared out.
In the rar file i did put the used sample and the karmaprg.
Just put in patches map of karma, did use prg 127 so you can insert it in a free spot in one of the banks.

Hi Soundscape!

have looked at your patch now...
Sorry, but I'm a but confused as to what you want to achieve..?!

the problem is that routing the noise generator into an envelope follower (either standalone or in compressor) will make it sit there and be pretty static, since the noise doesn't change over time...

To make the compressors gain reduction move, you'll have to give it a dynamic signal, ie something that changes amplitude over time.

Let me know, I'll try to help set up a working patch.
