OSC-Phase has no effect!

Post by dj.tuBIG/MaliceX »

KarmaFX Synth v1.00 ; this is synth-related.

After some discussing on the other thread, I had a toy around with the OSC generators and found the PHASE options for both OSC1 and OSC2 don't do a thing!

They're not functional, whether it be from modulating it with an LFO/OSCILLATOR, or using it plainly for something else. It doesn't have any effect on the sound or the actual oscillator present on the screen, wheras everything else does.

Could you shed some light on this? Thanks in advance.

Phase (init) in Osc1 and Osc2 set the phase reset position, not the actual phase. This option is also found in most hardware synth (e.g. like virus).
Its for controlling where the waveform starts which in important for some sounds. Hence it only has effect when "trigger" is enabled. ¨
Modulating these does work however...but depending on the sound/envelope/etc. it can be hard to hear..
If this is not clear in the manual, let me know...

For real phase control or modulation, you should look at the addtive module.

Oh right. Okay thanks for that, though it looks as if it's the same thing if one doesn't know that. :P

Additive module is the way for phase modulation! :P It has a nice subtle effect of brightness on the sound, and its good together with FM modulation. ;)
