Non-resetting envelopes (analog envelopes)?

Post by Argitoth »

This is a question or a feature request. I thought that KarmaFX ADSR module would not reset on every new trigger. By this I mean, if the attack and release are set high enough, you would be able to hold down a note and allow the envelope to rise with its attack time, let go of the note and allow the envelope to fall with its release time, and then hit and hold another note and have the envelope rise starting at the point it fell to. INSTEAD OF: rising, falling a little bit, rehitting a note, and having the envelope completely restart.

This is how my analog envelope works. I'd love to have this behavior in KarmaFX especially for controlling my analog synth with KarmaFX envelopes.

replace CLK with that feature instead :P
such as CNS (consistency)

anyways thats a really good idea

Actually the ADSR used to be like that. I.e., it would not reset to zero, and that is why clk options was added.
However, the clk option also disables smoothing of the envelope,
so to make functionality more consistant this change was made in v1.07:
  • ADSR module attack now always resets level on trigger, regardless of Clk option.
So the feature you're requesting was there, but taken out in 1.07.
You wan't it back? :D

Kasper, I knew the envelopes worked this way before! I was very confused when they didn't have this behavior.

Fixed. Will be in v1.10.

* Re-enabled the non-resetting, analog-style envelope attack (was disabled in v1.07). An "Analog" option has been added to the ADSR envelope attack knob. This option is on by default. (Thanks Argitoth!)

dangit man, I seriously need to create a video on controlling an analog synth with karma FX, spread the word on how useful it can be. I just haven't gotten around to it. :|

Yeah, I remember you talked about that! Sounds cool!!! 8) 8)

Now, you're propably talking about a video that records the analog synth too :), but I'm just gonna mention that it's pretty easy to record video from within the synth. Just hold ctrl-shift and right click on the background. Then choose "Record AVI..." and pick a filename and codec.
Maybe that could be helpful in some way?!
In any case I'm looking forward to see some heavy digital-to-analog patching :D

By the way, there are things about KarmaFX that could be changed or improved upon for the sake of controlling an analog synth. These things would also benefit KarmaFX as a digital synth in general. When I create this video, I'll make a detailed list of what I think would make KarmaFX better in this regard.

don't remove the click option though. it is very useful for percussive sounds.

Don't worry sweet_trip! 8) It won't be removed, but just be an option.
Right now I'm leaning towards making the analog mode (non resetting) the default, as it actually sounds better and more natural (to me) on lots of patches, but I'll try out some percussive sounds to make sure it doesn't break anything vital. And you're right it is quite useful, especially for clicky bass lines and percussive sounds, so I won't remove it for sure 8)

Concerning the adsr envelope question- are you talking about a single/multiple trigger option?-{I am a synth infant -mainly a Hammond player so excuse me if I miss the boat on this question}
