I always liked & trusted KarmaFX, so imagine my surprise when I ran KarmaFX Plugin Pack setup file thru VirusTotal and saw:
\File name: KarmaFX_Plugin_Pack.exe
Submission date: 2010-11-06 11:05:28 (UTC)
Current status: finished
Result: 1 /42 (2.4%)
TrendMicro 9.120.0.1004 2010.11.06 PAK_Generic.001
Mind you, only TrendMicro found a virus.
I'm sure there's an explanation. Thank you.
To KarmaFX Attention: Plugin Pack w/ virus???
Re: To KarmaFX Attention: Plugin Pack w/ virus???
Hi JOK!
Yes, you can trust KarmaFX software. KarmaFX products are always scanned regularly with the most recent virus detection software , so I'm 99.9% sure this is a false positive.
It is propably due to the nature of the compressed dll's. As stated on the TrendMicro site's threat encyclopedia:
If other virus detection software doesn't flag it as a threat, I wouldn't worry about it.
But thanks for pointing it out! I will - of course - investigate further.

The plugin dll's are compressed using a public compression algorithm (UPX), so it should be possible for the scanner to decompress and scan it without flagging it as a threat, but perhaps Trend Micro doesn't do that. This is the Trend Micro detection for possibly malicious executable files that are compressed using Win32 compression tools. ...
